Real-time monitoring software
InstraData receives and checks telemetry data from any field device, new or in place. It brings forecasts, staged alarms and response records together in one installation.
- For
- Environmental advisors, dam engineers, control rooms and the person on call
- Works with
- Direct connections to Campbell Scientific (PakBus), MQTT, Modbus TCP and SFTP; any other device is connected at set-up
- Hosting
- The organisation's servers, or Instrumenta hosting on AWS in Australia in data centres certified to ISO 27001
- Software
- Permanent licence at no charge; set-up, support and hosting are paid

The problem
The platform shows the readings and stops there, or there is no platform and the readings stay in the loggers. Forecasts are made elsewhere, alarms go to a shared inbox, and the record of what was done is in email. The subscription rises each year and the data stays with the vendor.
The solution
InstraData holds the readings, the forecasts, the alarms and the record of each response in one installation the organisation owns. Instrumenta sets it up for the monitoring systems a site has or is about to build.

Suitable uses
Tailings and water storages, creeks and rivers, groundwater, weather, pump stations, and geotechnical instruments such as inclinometers and piezometers.
Built on SAFER
A Monitoring system review tests the five SAFER stages. Each finding points to the part of InstraData that addresses it.
| Stage | In InstraData |
|---|---|
| Sense | Readings taken in from any field device, checked as they arrive and kept with their source. |
| Assess | Maps, drawings, schematics, trends and tables, laid out for the team that uses them. |
| Forecast | Numerical forecasts that give early warning of breaches. Localised weather forecasts imported to keep site personnel informed of developing conditions. |
| Explain | Data exported in the reporting format in use. Any measurement examined to establish what happened. Reports produced automatically, with the monitoring system's metadata kept with its data. |
| Respond | Staged alarms sent to the people responsible for acting on them. Acknowledgement, silencing and a full history, so the response is on record. Routine notices and reports issued automatically when a threshold is reached. |
Ownership, security and exit
| Instruments | Any field device, new or in place. Campbell Scientific (PakBus), MQTT, Modbus TCP and SFTP connect directly. Instrumenta connects any other device or format at set-up. |
| Licence | A permanent licence for the organisation's own installations, at no charge. Instrumenta owns the software. The organisation owns its configuration, data and backups. |
| Data | The organisation owns every reading. It can export all data, set-up and history as one backup file at any time. That file restores into an empty installation. |
| Installation | Each organisation has one installation, built from one image, with its own database and dedicated tenancy. |
| Hosting | On the organisation's own servers or cloud account, or hosted by Instrumenta on Amazon Web Services in Australia, in AWS data centres certified to ISO 27001. |
| Access | Users invited by an administrator, each with one of three roles. Every change is recorded with the person who made it and can be undone. |
| Security | Connections are encrypted. Each installation holds its own secrets. |
| Updates | Updates are applied in place. The previous version runs on the updated database, so an update can be reversed. Instrumenta supplies security fixes to every installation. |
| Support | InstraData support covers support and updates. InstraData hosting also covers the installation. Instrumenta gives at least 90 days' notice before either agreement ends and hands over the final backup file. |
| Continuity | The installation keeps running without Instrumenta. If Instrumenta stops trading or stops supporting InstraData, current clients receive the source code to maintain their installations. Source code escrow is available on request. |
Delivery process
| 1. Scope | Instrumenta agrees with your team which monitoring systems to connect, which decisions they inform and who needs the readings. |
| 2. Install and connect | Instrumenta installs InstraData and connects the field devices. It configures views, alarms, forecasts and automatic reports for each monitoring system. |
| 3. Hand over | Instrumenta gives users access and shows them how to use the system. |
| 4. Support | Instrumenta provides updates and support under InstraData support. Under InstraData hosting, it also runs the installation. |

InstraData and the services
Monitoring program management gives an InstraData program one manager and one set of records. Monitoring system delivery can commission a system on InstraData. Instrumenta designs connections to other systems as part of that work. A Monitoring system review identifies which systems to connect first.
